My girlfreinds boy went to Central Missouri States baseball camp yesterday and they clocked him at 84 mph on the gun. Pretty good. (he's 15 )

Distinguishing between the prophet and the fool becomes much more complicated, however, when our politicians evoke fear in order to consolidate power. It is disgraceful, contemptible and effective.
"Terrorism" is Chicken Little's (and George W.'s) cry, but guerrilla warfare and even acts of terror have their roots in injustice. Iraq is occupied, Lebanon is occupied, and so is Palestine. Military force will continue to fail until the injustices are addressed and rectified.
The United States will continue to be mistrusted in the Middle East until its foreign policy embraces justice for the Palestinians. Israel will continue to be unsafe until it chooses to live in peace with justice with its Palestinian neighbors. And young American men will continue to be recruited (and subsequently die) for a foreign policy that considers the rights and safety of some people more precious than the rights and safety of others.

THE GRILL INCIDENT

Well, just when I think I'm catching on to the whole homeowners gig.......
We bought a new grill on Saturday, one of those nice new big things, was on sale for 170.00...normally like 320.00....good deal......get it home, heavier than hell, get it up on the deck......(thank god it was already assembled) trying to figure out how to connect the gas line to the propane tank........DEE DEE DEE turns out it's a friggin' NATURAL GAS LINE grill...not a propane powered one. No way to know that until you opened the manual AFTER getting it home.

By the way did I mention it was like 101 degrees Saturday?
So on top of that, upon further investigation I find a little "pick up later" slip inside the grill......that has somebody's number on it that had returned the grill previously.......so I call them up, and the SAME THING HAPPENED TO THEM, THAT'S WHY THEY RETURNED IT!
At this point, I'm ready to have pigs fly out of my *ss. So, I take it back to Lowes, and I am just going off on the manager, why don't you have some sort of a sign on this yadda yada yadda..........he was willing to give money back of course, but that wasn't the point at all, I said we needed a grill, and I want a propane powered one for 170.00 dollars! Well, he wasn't real sympathetic......UNTIL, get this........the returns lady standing there says, "You know, this is like the fourth grill I've had returned because of this same reason."
Upon hearing this the manager says, "Are you kidding me?"
He then turns to me and says,"Go pick yourself out a nice PROPANE powered grill......I don't care wich one, and we'll only charge you the original 170.00." heh heh
So, I picked me out a porcelain grate grill, with 4 burners and a side burner thingy...and all the bells and whistles, all for being a dumb*ss.
Although I was apparently the only one with enough cohonees to raise a stink about it......maybe I'm not such a dumb*ss after all.
hee hee.

My younger sibling has also had an incident with a grill, but that is referred to as the "Grilling incident" that landed him in the hospital with stitches, but that's a story for another time.

Israel is digging a huge hole for itself, and we are in danger of falling in with them. When you live in a neighborhood with no friends, it is bad policy to start fights, even if you have big brother America on your side. Look at the demographics of the region and tell me how Israel, with its policy of "no mercy" to anyone who threatens or attacks them, plans to exit 50 years from now when the U.S. will have so many of its own problems that it will no longer be able to help. And since the Israeli army shows no more mercy than the German army showed the Jews in Europe, we may see history repeated.
We may be in big trouble ourselves because we are letting Israel lead us by the nose. We arm them to the teeth and yet they ignore us when we say please stop your aggression.
Remember, in the Arab world, a friend of my enemy is my enemy. We do not need Israel's enemies attacking us. If we don't start looking out for our own interests by balancing the legitimate rights of both Israel and the Arabs, we will reap the whirlwind. And, since we are spending most of our resources to fight terrorism overseas, we may not have much protection here at home when they come after us.
I have little hope for real change soon because the Bush presidency is a total disaster; and half the people in this country don't know or care, they still think Iraq had WMDs in 2003.

By the way folks, it's not the humidity....it's actually the dew point that makes it feel so sticky out.

Generally as the temp outside rises, the humidity will go down believe it or not.

When the temp and the dew point reach the same degree.....it could be raining where you are at.

If the air temperature and the dew point temperature are the same at the surface, and a cloud forms, guess what it is called? Fog is just that, a cloud at the surface. And you'll notice that when fog forms, the temperature and dew point are the same (or about the same). Also, light winds are favorable for the formation of fog.

The dew point can be related to rain or cloud formation because where the rain/cloud forms, the air temperature will be the same as the dewpoint temperature. However, a more important everyday use of the dewpoint temperature is in indicating the moisture content of the air. The higher the dewpoint temperature, the higher the moisture content of the air.
About Relative Humidity:
One thing you'll notice is that when the air temperature is close to the dew point, the relative humidity is high (often 80% or greater). But the relative humidity is relative. Dewpoint temperature is a better "absolute" measure of moisture in the air.
Why? Because it doesn't change when the air temperature changes, it only changes when the moisture content changes. (Assuming constant pressure).
In general, dew points above 70 degrees are very uncomfortable.
Most people consider dewpoints near 55 degrees and higher to be necessary for severe weather. That's just a guideline though.

To Summarize: The dew point is the temperature you must cool air at constant pressure in order for that airmass to become saturated. This does not necessarily mean a cloud or rain drop will form. When water does condense into a cloud or rain drop, it means that the air temperature and dew point temperature are the same, and this would mean we have 100% relative humidity. High dew points mean high moisture content of the air, which often translates to muggy and uncomfortable conditions.

So, it's the dew point NOT the humidity.

EXAMPLE:

Right now in Kansas City the dew point is 77 degrees!! Our temp is about 92...BUT the humidity is only 63%......as the temp drops though, the humidity will go up, when the temp drops enough to hit the dew point level....it'll probably be raining. And I'm telling you what....it is stickier than molasses out right now......w/the humidity only being 63%.

Thusly, (is that a word?) the next time somebody syas it's not the heat, it's the humidity....you can politley correct them and say, "No, it's the dew point!"

Happy 5th of July!

I hope everyone had a happy and SAFE 4th of July. I know I did.....I was at home yesterday, but went up to Iowa for the weekend and saw all my buddies, went to my couisins wedding on Saturday. (who was fighting for us overseas for a year, thanks for that Jordy.)

Everything in Iowa is so awesome looking this time of year.....the greens are just really neat. I forget how much I miss the green cornfields, that may sound funny...but when you grew up with them for 38 years......and plus everything down here (Missouri) is so brown right now......basically zippo rain for what we should be having. Oh well. On the other hand, I like the 60/70 degree weather in March...hee hee.

Do better than just ideology
Ideologies are belief systems that do not rely upon objective reality for their validation. They are often like small boxes that fill quickly with simplistic ideas and do not allow new ideas to come in. Objective reality and "the facts" become secondary. People are very slow to change perceptions that are based on ideology. A recent poll showed that some 40 percent of Americans still think the Iraq war was a good idea.
Radical Muslims hate western ideologies. They believe our obsessive sexuality, competition, self indulgence and lack of reverence are satanical. To them, we represent evil. They do not accept our ideas of "freedom," "democracy" and "liberation" the way they so easily roll out of President Bush's mouth. He speaks as if there were some shared sense of objective reality to these concepts.
Ideologies are important to everyone. Ideologies create social order and culture. We cannot live sane lives without them. However, when it comes to political action, we need to place our ideologies on hold and not make them our default setting. They just get in the way of finding useful compromises to difficult social issues and international problems.
By definition, ideologies, if forced upon others with different beliefs, can only result in conflicts that continue as long as any one ideology believes it must prevail. If it does prevail, we then have a social order in which freedom, constitutional democracy and personal liberty mean nothing.
We can do better. We can expand tolerance. We can address the real problems that will shape the lives of our children and grandchildren. These problems and issues are more numerous, dangerous and difficult than at any time in our history.

Angel statue out of place in park

Every time I am in City Park and see that angel statue with very large wings, I question why that it has been placed in a public location. The U.S. Constitution guarantees separation of church and state. No religious icon should be placed in a public place.

For the umpteenth time, you have freedom OF religion in this country...not freedom FROM religion.

It's a statue of an angel......besides you don't know for sure it's a religious symbol. Maybe it's a depiction of "The Angel" from the movie "X-men The Last Stand"

Sure, that sounds ridiculous...but no more so than you're little rant about "A religious icon"

Fine then, how about this, we'll construct a statue of Mohammed, a Menorah, and I know how about a statue of nothing, to represent whatever it is you believe in, Dorothy.

COUNCIL WORKING TO BAN TOY GUNS:
The Dallas City Council wants to move fast on an ordinance that would ban the sale of realistic looking toy guns.
Federal law already requires toy guns to have an orange cap on the barrell, but some don't. Council members said they want to make those guns - which look real - illegal.
At a public safety meeting Monday council members worried that officers would believe a toy gun is real and shoot someone.
"This is a tragedy waiting to happen," said council member Mitchell Rasansky.
A new law could follow other cities leads and make it illegal for the fake firearm to be displayed or brandished in public. Although brightly colored guns and transparent guns, such as water guns, could be excluded.
The council hopes to continue studying the innitiative until its August public safety meeing. It should then go to the full council for a vote.
